HEYWOOD has claimed their second win in a row in the Surry District Tennis Association’s A grade competition with a victory over Lawn Purple 4-42 to 2-35 on Saturday at the Lawn courts.

They got their match off to an excellent start, with their double’s pairings of Austin Sadler and Rodney Schack, and Rebecca Siddle and Marni Mueller, winning all four of their sets.

Lawn Purple had more luck in the mixed doubles, with Nathan Adams and Kerri-Ann O’Keefe defeating Sadler and Siddle 9-7, while Nash Wollard and Kayley Smith beat Schack and Mueller 8-3.

While those on the outside might have considered a couple of wins in a row to be a surprise given the difficult start to the year Heywood had, Sadler said that his team internally had confidence in themselves.

“It’s not like we’ve been playing bad tennis… the results just haven’t come until now,” he said.

“We’ve been playing well all season, but these last two weeks have just been a step better.”

He said that this pair of wins could prove to be exactly what the team needs to right the ship and make a push over the second half of the season.

“It’s always a challenge during the early stages of the season… especially when you’ve got new teammates… honestly it takes me nearly until the middle of the season before I’m ready to go,” Sadler said.

“I think we’re starting to get the communication up and we’re gelling together nicely, which is good to see.”

In the other match of the day, Tyrendarra had a comfortable win at home over Lawn Blue, as they ran out 6-50 to 0-32 winners in a dominant display.

Marcus McClintock and Jeremy Prevett were too good for Aiden Mibus and Craig Keenan, winning their first set 8-4 before a close 9-7 second set also went Tyrendarra’s way.

Sally McClintock and Robyn Kelly were equally as impressive in their sets against Brooke King and Verity McDonald, winning 8-5, 8-4, before Tyrendarra also had solid wins in the mixed doubles to finish off an all-around fantastic performance.
