IN division one bowls action, wins were by 10, 7 and 30 shots on Tuesday.
Portland holds on to the top spot for the fifth of seven weeks and two home sides won.
Balmoral 62 defeated Hamilton 52 and this came via a one-team win, Nettie Tinning had a big day and defeated Elma Astbury, 31-11.
So, when Trish Brody was tossed by Jenny Pole, 14-23, and Chick Trotman likewise 17-18 against Heather McIntyre, the difference was still 10 shots to the home side.
The ladder rung stayed the same.
Portland travelled to Grangeburn and quickly got used to the new green, getting up by six shots.
Leah McCabe drew with Shirley Rogers, 17-17, Robyn Thomassen defeated Heather Burgess, 28-15, but the figures of 12 to Nettie Ryan and 31 to Kerrie Alexander finalised the totals at 57-63.
Memorial made the most of the antarctic blast and defeated Casterton, 88-38.
June Leahy 25 to Teresa Sealey 18, Judy Fasoli 27 to Berniece Sullivan 14, Marion Husson with Terry Stanley, Peter Fasoli and Kathryn Beauglehole knocked up the 36 to Nancy Sharam’s six.
As it is the end of the first-round skips with five wins from seven starts are Heather McIntyre, Heather Burgess and Kerrie Alexander.

Division two
MACARTHUR maintained the top spot after the final bye of the round.
No winners were able to unseat the Macarthur, while Portland got to second via a win over Grangeburn, 42-29.
How did that happen? Well Val Baker d. Raelene Roberts, 20-14, and Maree Jennings d. Wendy Kosch, 22-15.
After the result, Grangeburn stayed put on the ladder.
Memorial went upwards and helped Coleraine drop to third.
Meredith Fredericks 17 lost to Therese Nolte 26, and Pearl Kitt defeated Lesley Beaton, 25-13.
Lesley has skipped four wins from five starts.
Hamilton scored 26 to a very determined Penshurst team’s 43.
Penshurst was playing in a bid to boost morale of a very unwell teammate.
Heather Gough finished with 17 in her first start of the year to Ann Rentsch 18, and Glenda Porter 12 to Brenda Uebergang 25.
Bev Bourke’s team has the best performance record in division two with five wins from six starts.

Division three
ONE narrow win by five shots went to Dartmoor, 42-37, against Portland.
Both scores were pretty close but went to the visitors. Elaine Jones 20 to Joan Cottier 17 and Sue Tregellis 22 to Myra Bourke 20.
The win to Dartmoor moved it up one spot, but helped Portland drop from top to fourth.
Memorial couldn’t emulate the division two result, as Trish Watt 11 lost to Carole Dunn 33, and Pauline Breen 15 lost to Di Cowland 16, with final scores settling on Memorial 26 to Macarthur 49.
Grangeburn 27 lt Heywood 46, as Marg Hadley 10 lt B Moore 24, and Bev Casey 17 lt Jan Hamblin 22.
The final game was between Hamilton and Casterton, with Hamilton putting up 30 to Casterton’s 40.
N. Landwehr 14 lt Helen Lucas 22, and Lesley Toohey 16 to L. Richardson 18.
Ladder: Macarthur 80, Dartmoor 72, Heywood 70, Portland 68, Memorial 39, Casterton 31, Grangeburn 23, and Hamilton with nine.

OWING to very bleak conditions at Portland on Monday, the women’s section state pairs had to be called off.
After midday, one of three sectional games hadn’t been completed.
Another attempt will be made on Monday week, as all pathway and pennant competition is not permitted on the weekend or until next Saturday, as the protected Victorian Open is being played in the Shepperton area.
