Manhunt over

60-hour manhunt over after Hamilton man arrested for armed burglary

Hamilton Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a 26-year-old Hamilton man following an aggravated burglary in Hamilton on Tuesday.

A man was arrested Friday morning in Werribee and has been charged with aggravated burglary, sexual assault, armed robbery, and other offences.

The man was apprehended without incident after fleeing from Hamilton when he entered a stranger’s home on Kent Road and threatened her with a knife at about 1.10pm Tuesday.

Hamilton Crime Investigation Unit detectives said the man was taken to hospital for precaution but was released back into custody shortly after.

It is believed the man smashed the windscreen of the 1995 Toyota HiLux utility vehicle he was driving in his attempt to flee the stranger’s house.

Police were looking for the Hamilton man for over 60 hours after the attack on the 40-year-old woman.

He is currently assisting police with their enquiries.

He was remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 3 December 2021.
