Fire prep underway

FOREST Fire Management Victoria (FFMVic) has been hard at working preparing the south-west for the upcoming bushfire season, with more than 160 firefighters to be supporting the region through the summer.

FFMVic has recruited 19 new firefighters in the Grampians, taking the region’s total resources over 100, while it will have 60 firefighters in the far south-west.

The firefighters have been undergoing training and regular briefings ahead of the summer in order to undertake fire prevention, response and recovery works in the coming months as needed.

The extra firefighters also build on FFMVic’s ongoing fuel reduction works that have taken place throughout the year.
