Local teams up with Black Dog Institute

THE Black Dog Institute is looking to further support those who put their lives on the line in heavily affected bushfire areas.

A new government funded program is focusing on emergency service workers who have been affected by mental health and require treatment related to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

The program will put GPs through the newest mental health training to ensure they are equipped to tackle any mental health issues.

Local Hamilton CFA volunteer, Peter Green knows first-hand what the effects of PTSD can do to a person and their family.

After 15 years of service, he has seen some of the most traumatic events, all of which have led to his eventual breakdown around four and a half years ago.

Twelve months after his mental struggles began, Mr Green decided he wanted to help others and prevent what happened to him from happening to them.
