HAMILTON Police are investigating after a stolen vehicle was crashed at a pedestrian crossing on Mt Baimbridge Road.
Acting sergeant, Jim Beaumont said police had been called out to the crossing about 4am yesterday after receiving a report of a motor vehicle collision.
“When they’ve rocked up, there was no one present but the Nissan ute had suffered significant damage and the air bags had deployed,” he said.
“Police have made some enquiries about the owner of the vehicle and found that it had been stolen at some time in the three or four hours before that morning.
“It appears to have been an opportunistic theft and the offender hasn’t got too far before they’ve crashed the vehicle into a pole at a pedestrian crossing near the school.”
