WHEN Lexie Northcott received an Apple Watch for her 15th birthday, no one expected the device would save her life.
As a fit and sporty teenager who “will play anything”, Lexie was never concerned when the watch’s heart rate monitor would occasionally alert her that her heart rate was low.
Lexie’s mum, Karla said the family put the heart rate down to Lexie being a fit person.
But when the COVID-19 pandemic hit and put a stop to a lot of Lexie’s sport activities, her heart rate didn’t change.
“It was getting worse and worse and the watch was vibrating more often,” Karla said.
