Carols by Candlelight 2020 cancelled

THE disruptions to 2020 continue to affect various community events, with Hamilton’s annual Carols by Candlelight cancelled.

Life Centre of Hamilton pastor, Rick Penny regretted the decision, as he considered the event an important part of the calendar for not just his church, but the local community.

“With all of the delays and restrictions brought on by the COVID-19 virus it has made it impossible to prepare and organise any kind of program,” he said.

“It’s normally held in the Botanic Gardens, it’s usually held the second week of December on a Friday.

“Over the last few weeks we have been working with 3HA to see if a radio broadcast of a closed performance would be feasible but we have been unable to produce a quality recording that would be suitable for the radio.

“3HA were very helpful, they wanted to work out something but the problem we ran into was production.

“We couldn’t do it live and every time we tried to do a recording – our system just wasn’t quality enough to produce a recording that would sound any good at all on air.

“So we kept running into technical problems with that.”
