SHERRI Heffernan will have a Christmas to remember, after being drawn as the winner of the Southern Grampians Shire’s $5000 shop local competition.
The single mother of four children was treated to a $5000 shopping spree at local businesses this week, which she said came at a welcome time for the family.
“It was such an unexpected surprise and it makes Christmas so much easier,” she said.
“I’ve got a special needs daughter and she needs an iPad. I’ve been trying to get funding through the NDIS, but it has been really hard.
“She was also saving for one herself, but this has allowed me to buy one outright.”
To go into the running for the prize, shoppers had to enter their receipt from a local business.
Ms Heffernan said it was the receipt from a $10 pair of socks she bought from Victoria’s Sights and Delights that had been drawn.
“It’s amazing and such a great surprise,” she said.
“I was in the car when I got the phone call and I had to pull over.
“I never thought a $10 pair of socks would turn into $5000.”
