Local Australia Day celebrations to go ahead

AUSTRALIA Day in the Southern Grampians Shire will look a little different than normal next week, but several towns will push ahead with organised community events.

In line with COVID-19 restrictions on public gatherings, five towns are expected to hold an official Australia Day event next Tuesday.

The shire will host its regular ceremony at the Hamilton Botanic Gardens at 10.30am, which will include a flag raising ceremony, performances by local musicians and Hamilton Brass, a citizenship ceremony, the presentation of the shire’s Australia Day awards and a free light lunch.

The shire has also planned for HILAC as an alternative if the weather was wet.
