Community rallies behind family after it loses all in house fire

A BELOVED family home has been destroyed in a “tragic” house fire in Willatook.

Housing a family of seven, the property and all its possessions caught fire on Tuesday morning,

CFA Hawkesdale group officer, Pat Noonan said the house was fully alight with flames about 15 metres high when he arrived on scene.

He said “thankfully” no occupants were inside the house at the time of the fire.

“When I arrived at the scene, the structure was covered in a mushroom of smoke … the house was fully engulfed,” he said.

“Once all the tankers arrived it took around 20 minutes to contain the fire and one part of the dwelling had fallen in prior to our arrival, and the other section was still standing but the entire property was completely destroyed.”

Mr Noonan said CFA investigators went through the property, but he hadn’t been aware of any outcome as to how the fire started.
