Junior firefighters set to battle in state champs

JUNIOR firefighters from Hamilton are looking forward to participating in the Victorian State Urban Junior Firefighter Championships which kick off Saturday at Mooroopna.

The two-day event will see junior and senior teams from all around the state battle to finish their respective events in the quickest time.

Junior Hamilton Fire Brigade coordinator, Kelly Hitchcock said it’s always a great weekend away and couldn’t wait to see the nine local kids in action.

“We’ve been training every Tuesday and Thursday night down at Melville Oval netball courts since restrictions lifted in the middle of October,” she told The Spectator.

“There are 18 different events which focus on fire ground skills and learning how to adapt to real-life situations.

“The junior section of the competition encompasses age groups of under 14s and under 17s.”
