THE Andrews Labor Government is taking another step towards making renting fairer and safer for all Victorians, with new rules set to come into effect on Monday.
More than one in four Victorians are currently renting and these changes look to expand the rights and responsibilities of tenants and landlords – ensuring minimum requirements and standards are met.
The changes also present a range of modifications tenants can make to the house to make it feel more like a home.
Elders Real Estate senior property manager, Penny Cotterill said the new laws would require them to implement over 130 changes to the way renting currently operates.
“There are a lot of things we need to start putting in place to get ready for it, there will be changes for both tenants and landlords,” she said.
“Tenants will have more security in renting a home, landlords are going to have to be a bit more on top of their game to know when things are happening and what to do.”
