Macarthur real estate providing tourism potential

THE current property market boom has created an opportunity for two new Macarthur landowners planning to build Airbnb rentals.

The former St Malachy’s Catholic Church will be transformed into a five-bedroom residence with a caretaker’s cottage, while a holiday house will be built on a Heckfield Street block of land.

The recent purchases highlight a trend of holidaymakers and investors opting for the open outdoors in regional Victoria, over more confined living setups in metropolitan areas.

Melbourne business partners Alex Devantier and Patricia Concannon purchased the old church in March 2021 with the settlement finalised on April 15.

Mr Devantier said it was “such a stunning church … others don’t have the character or township of this church”.

The interior designer and property developer, who is ironically from Macarthur in Sydney, was impressed by the town’s community vibe and the friendliness of its residents.
