CASTERTON impressionistic artist, Julie Kent is the Hamilton MUD Gallery’s June artist of the month.
The non-for-profit community-run gallery provides local artists a chance to exhibit and sell their artwork, while building connections with other artists.
With 34 years of painting experience, Ms Kent was described by the MUD Gallery as having a “loose and whimsical style, using acrylics, oils and watercolours”, while her subject matter was “often inspired by her surroundings, farm cottages, the beautiful bush-land of south-west Victoria, florals, still-life and local gardens”.
Ms Kent has sold thousands of paintings and won many awards, including the 2021 John Shaw Neilson Acquisitive Art Prize at the Penola Coonawarra Arts Festival, which came with a $12,000 prize for her painting titled “Undressed”.
The award was open to all emerging and established artists throughout Australia, with the subject and inspiration of all entries deriving from the poetry of the late Australian.
