POLICE are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal crash in Digby on Sunday night.

A 57-year-old Merino man died after crashing his car on the side of Portland-Casterton Road and emergency services were called to attend the scene after a passer-by located the vehicle about 5.45pm.
The driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle and no other cars were involved but the exact circumstances surrounding the crash are yet to be determined.

Hamilton Police leading senior constable Gina Gilchrist said ambulance and SES services attended the scene, with the SES assisting with lighting for investigators and “manpower”.
Ldg Sen Const Gilchrist said it was believed the driver was deceased when discovered by the passer-by and that he was not trapped in the vehicle.
Police will now prepare a report for the coroner.
