PORTLAND post office staff are sporting a bit of scruff this month, as a number of them have signed up to support Movember.
A crew of four mates from the shop are growing their “mos” for the first time in decades in support of the cause after being prompted by a memo from head office.
“We saw something from AusPost about how it could be a good opportunity to fundraise for an important cause so we discussed it and thought why not,” team captain Ian Currie said.
“Prostate cancer is something that does affect a lot of men and needs as much support as possible, but there’s also the mental health side of things which is just as important.
“It’s a great cause to get behind and raising money while growing a moustache is something we could do without too much behind the scenes work.”
Mr Currie said the team has no particular style for their moustaches and instead have just been trimming as they grow.
Originally the team thought they might raise around $200 for the month, but two weeks in they have hit the $540 mark already.
“We’re really happy with our fundraising so far,” Mr Currie said.
“We thought $200 would be a lot so to be past that already is a great feeling.
“Any donation is welcome – big or small.
“We also encourage anyone thinking of taking part to jump on board next year, it’s a rewarding experience to know you can help someone out just by growing some facial hair.”
