WITH Santa and his sleigh soon on the way, the Heywood community is proudly spreading Christmas cheer across town.
Students from Heywood Consolidated School took to the streets on Wednesday afternoon to show their holiday spirit, singing carols for businesses and customers alike.
Students across all grades joined in the festive fun, singing classic like Jingle Bell Rock and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.
School principal Ann Hawker said the students had been eagerly awaiting the big day.
“There was about 40 students involved in the carols who had to give up their lunch and recesses to practice with our music teacher Kerri Colliver,” she said.
“We greatly appreciate the businesses in Heywood and all they do for our school throughout the year so it’s important for us to be able to give back by spreading some Christmas cheer.”
Another of Heywood’s most anticipated Christmas events is Christmas on the Town Green, which will return this year after a Covid-induced hiatus in 2020.
Organised by Promoting Heywood, the free event will be held on December 23 between 5pm and 8pm, with Santa even taking time out of his busy schedule to pop-in on the night.
“We’re really looking forward to bringing it back this year after restrictions caused us to cancel in 2020,” Promoting Heywood president Rhonda Barrand said.
“We’ll have a barbecue, jumping castles, mini golf, Portland Brass Band and more on the night.
“It’s going to be a great night filled with family fun and we encourage everyone to come down and join in.”
