AN official opening ceremony was held for the Portland Town Jetty this week, with Glenelg Shire councillors and members of the public gathering to celebrate the occasion.
The $1.5 million project, funded by the State Government’s Building Works program, saw the former popular site reinstated with a 175-metre-long floating pontoon.
The all-abilities jetty has designated recreational fishing pontoons, seating and an expansive width of 4 metres for promenading and general leisure.
The asset was officially opened by Parliamentary Secretary for Regional Victoria Danielle Green alongside Glenelg Shire mayor Anita Rank.
The jetty is part of three Local Port of Portland projects recently opened, with the Portland Bay Marina and an extension to the Trawler Wharf floating pontoons the other two.
