Carollers spread Christmas joy

IN the absence of an official Carols by Candlelight event this year, Hamilton’s Tom and Barbara Trimnell took it upon themselves to spread the Christmas spirit around town.

Last Sunday, the Trimnell’s hosted Carol Singing at the Painted Piano, outside the Performing Arts Centre.

The couple went above and beyond for the event and even prepared a songbook so carollers could follow along during the afternoon around the piano.

However, as Sunday afternoon approached, the Christmas cheer was temporarily dampened as storms prevented a large crowd from gathering.

But the show went on – with a small crowd of carollers setting up their camp chairs and belting out some festive favourites, including Silent Night, O Come All Ye Faithful, and Away in a Manger.

“Because the weather was totally shocking … there was just a handful there, but those that came enjoyed it,” Mr Trimnell said.

It’s hoped Hamilton will have an official carols event next year, but if no one puts up their hand to host, the Trimnell’s are happy to step up for another event at the painted piano.
