Baimbridge revamp takes shape

BUILDING works at Baimbridge College have progressed substantially in the last few weeks, with the current upgrades expected to be completed in April.

The school's $8.3 million revamp was delayed by COVID-19 restrictions last year but has taken shape in the last month.

Baimbridge College principal, Warwick Price said the plan was to move into the new classrooms by the end of the first school term.

Mr Price said staff who will be teaching in the new building had given detailed input into the rooms' design, equipment, and layout to ensure the new multipurpose science and technology classrooms would create an environment conducive to learning for all students.

"Things have progressed quite significantly since the shutdowns in Term four," he said.

"(There are) science rooms - physics, chemistry and biology, food technology, woodwork, metalwork and engineering and mechanisms and energy rooms…and a brand-new administration building,"

"Following that, there will be upgrades to the gymnasium, and then there'll be some further demolition works -demolition of the old science building built in the 1960s," he said.

"And a planned extension to the Hamilton District Skills Centre - the idea of that is that we will be able to house building projects that students have worked on so they will be undercover and connected to the skills centre."

Mr Price said students were included at every stage of the process and had enjoyed giving their input into the learning spaces.

"The students have been involved in all the design process, consultations, colours, table and chairs, which has been a great experience especially given it's been elongated in terms of the timeline," he said.
