Summer break spent outdoors

WITH the summer holidays in action, campsites have become a popular spot for accommodation, where locals and tourists have gained a more outdoors experience.

Sawpit Free Campground located in Narrawong had a few campers this week, with RVs, tents and swags set up separately around the area.

Traveller, Michael Morris said he was always on the road, with no specific town to call home.

He stopped by Sawpit to explore the mountain bike trails and be closer to the beaches so he could continue to collect shark fossils.

“Mountain biking is always a good way to start the day,” Mr Morris said.

“This is the best part of the region.

“I have been to every beach in the area, but I spend a lot of time out at Bridgewater.

“I’ve been diving in the area as well.

“During lockdown, I spent 18 months in Melbourne diving for shark fossils.”

Portland locals, Makayla Brabham and Tyler Meade, took a break from work and spent time at the campsite with friends.

“We’ve just been camping with a few mates,” said Mr Meade.

“They have left already, packed up and gone home to start work again.”

Ms Brabham said they chose the area for peace and quiet, and to be surrounded by a different environment compared to the town.

“We just enjoy the nature and wildlife,” she said.
