Moyne CEO resigns

MOYNE Shire Council chief executive Bill Millard is stepping down from the top job after almost four years in the role.

Mr Millard will finish up in late March after saying it was time for a new challenge.

Moyne Shire mayor Cr Ian Smith said Mr Millard informed shire councillors of his decision to step down this week.

“Bill has done an excellent job and is leaving the shire in great condition,” Mr Smith said.

“While we are very sad to see him leave, we are also very thankful for his leadership over the past four years, half of which has been navigating the COVID-19 pandemic,” Cr Smith said.

“He’s been a fantastic leader and is very good at listening and responding to concerns.

“It has been a very challenging time and (the pandemic) has made things very difficult with people working remotely – but we are in the process of getting staff back to work, which is great.

“He has been a terrific support to me since being elected Mayor and I will miss his knowledge and guidance.”

Deputy Mayor Cr Daniel Meade said Mr Millard would leave a lasting legacy at Moyne.

“During my two terms as Mayor, which spanned much of the coronavirus pandemic, Bill was a steady hand in an uncertain situation – he guided Council through the challenges, ensured we supported our communities and maintained our strong financial position as we came out the other side,” he said.

“Bill was a strong advocate for economic development and business, and he leaves the great Shire of Moyne a better place thanks to his strong and steady leadership.

“He has been a great CEO to work with and has set the bar high for whoever comes next.

“I wish him and his family all the best.”

Moyne Shire Council's economic development and planning director Brett Davis is stepping in as acting chief executive, with a staffing process to replace Mr Millard underway.
