THE 45th Port Fairy Folk Festival had a sweet return over the long weekend, after the much-loved event was called off last year.
Visitors from near and far made their way to the seaside town to enjoy all the Folkie had to offer.
Acrobats, busking musicians, puppeteers, and school bands were all on hand along Sackville Street to entertain the steady stream of festival goers as they made their way to the festival arena.
Inside, stage tents were packed with crowds - the Women out Loud show, hosted by Sarah Carroll in River Stage One (Warinoong) on Sunday morning had a captive audience while the powerful acts, Gaby Moreno, Irish Mythen, Katherine Priddy, Kee’ahn and Tracy McNeil and The Goodlife told the story behind the lyrics before they performed.
Local talent was also on display on the Pyipgil Gundidj stage as part of the Future Folk Musicians Development Program.
Warrnambool artist, Gabby Steel performed her song, Deaf Ears which she wrote about climate inaction and feeling helpless in the fight against climate change.
“I’m sick of calling out politicians and falling on deaf ears … she (the climate) is not alright,” she said.
Outside, roving performer, “Uptown” Brown, the one-man band extraordinaire entertained festival goers as they made their way to the next stage.
Festival organisers said they were thrilled with the sold-out event and were happy to be back after such a lengthy break.
