The Heywood Herald: Chairs, vases and other bits and bobs

A HONDA generator 2.2, a wooden spinning wheel and painted vases, these are just some of the things that will be found at the annual Heywood Lions Club auction on Sunday March 27.

Over the past few weeks, the Lions Club has received a good collection of farm machinery, household items and antique furniture.

“So far, there’s mainly smaller stuff, but we also have got some really good lounge suites,” president of the Heywood Lions Club, Graeme Bond said.

“We’ve had a lot of good sellable items donated so far.

“Donations will continue to be accepted until the morning of the auction.

“I’m expecting a large auction this year because the last two have been cancelled and it looks like it’s going to have that turnout.”

Mr Bond said the auctioneer on the day will be Trevor Hodge. Another big seller is firewood. It will be sold cut and split by Colin Bannam.

The money raised from firewood sales will go towards the current struggle after the flooding disaster set in Northern Australia.

“A portion of our proceeds will go towards the flooding disasters through the Australian Lions Foundation,” Mr Bond said.

“The Australian Lions Foundation is set up to deal with disaster relief.

“Other money raised from the auction will go toward Lions’ projects both locally and Australian wide.”

There will be a barbecue selling sausages, hamburgers and drinks, providing energy for those who especially want to get their auction game on.

Mr Bond said it will be a good family day, and an opportunity to catch up with other members of the community.

With a year’s preparation for the event, the Lions Club hope this year’s turnout will be successful in comparison to previous years.

“I look forward to when the last item is being sold,” Mr Bond said.

“It’s a terrible lot of work leading up to the auction.

“Our annual auction is our largest fundraiser for the year.”

Commissioned items cannot be picked up by the Club and are charged 15%.

The event will be held Sunday March 27 at the Heywood Recreation Reserve, from 11am to 2pm.

For questions or the need for someone to pick up a donated item, please call Graeme Bond on 0417 106 707.
