Macarthur pool farewells summer

IT was a ripper end to the summer pool season for Macarthur residents, as the Macarthur Pool Committee hosted a movie night to celebrate the conclusion of their first season at the helm.

A crowd settled in at the pool last Saturday night to watch Aussie animation Back to The Outback followed by The Mitchells vs. the Machines.

Pool goers paid $5 entry on the night, with BBQ, ice cream and lollies provided; all funds raised were generously donated to the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal.

Macarthur Pool Committee treasurer, Katherine Cameron said the weather on Saturday was ideal for a night spent at the pool and meant the community could take advantage of the last of the summery weather.

“It was 26 degrees - it was so warm and still,” she said

“We chose the Royal Children’s Hospital because so many people have been touched by the Royal Children’s Hospital,” she said.

“The (Macarthur) Campdraft really supported us, we went down (to the campdraft) with a big bucket and raffle tickets and came back with a bucket of money.

Ms Cameron said the committee’s first season managing the pool had been an overwhelming success, and the committee was grateful for the support they had received in Macarthur, and further afield.

“Pool membership increased from 35 to 48, we wanted to get to 50, but were happy with 48,” she said.

“Swim classes were full, and it really goes to show that the pool being run by the community, for the community, is a good thing - we listen to the community.”
