MITCHELL Park was found damaged earlier this week from what appeared to be burnouts done on the turf between Wednesday evening and Thursday morning.
A spokesperson from the Southern Grampian Shire said in a Facebook post Thursday morning that the damage was “a disappointing sight to wake up to”.
“Our works and recreation teams have recently replaced the concrete base and laid a new cricket pitch here,” the post read.
“The surrounds of the new base were also re-done with new top soil and grass.
“This senseless vandalism, especially after all this work and investment by Council, is extremely disheartening.”
Hamilton Police sergeant, Rex Habel said the offending was “disappointing” and encouraged anyone with information to contact Hamilton Police on 5551 9100 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
“If anyone has any information in relation to the damage members of the public should call crime stoppers or Hamilton Police,” he said.
“If anyone noticed any vehicle activity at odd times of the morning or evening in the area they should also contact police.”
