A SHORT unscheduled Southern Grampians Shire Council meeting was held at midday on Friday to resolve a small ‘technicality’ in the Cox Street Redevelopment project and give the green light to move the project forward.
The seven-minute meeting was chaired by mayor, Cr Bruach Colliton, with Shire infrastructure director, Marg Scanlon recommending a two-part motion for the contract awarded to the tenderer (MACA Civil Pty Ltd) last July to the value of $3.2 million and delegate to the chief executive officer the authority to execute the contract.
In moving the motion, councillor Mary-Ann Brown said she was pleased to see the project advancing.
“We just need to get on with this Cox Street project, as all in the community would know,” she said.
“It’d be good to see some sods being turned.”
Cr Katrina Rainsford agreed and said the project’s importance to the appearance of the CBD made it a priority that the Shire had understood.
“There's a lot of work being done by successive staff members on this project,” she said.
“I congratulate Marg and our current CEO for the continued effort and the patience of the community and we look forward to a renovation and our front door project getting underway on the eastern side, which is the most important part that we need work done.”
The motion carried unanimously; the Shire have yet to release an official statement about the status of the project but indicated they will do so soon.
