HAMILTON Moves is a new transport study designed to help the Southern Grampians Shire Council understand how locals travel around Hamilton.
The study, which was funded by the Department of Transport, aims to help the Shire identify gaps, future needs, and current mobility patterns, so they can build a comprehensive map of Hamilton’s transport activities.
Southern Grampians Shire Council mayor, Bruach Colliton said the first phase of Hamilton Moves was to gain a better understanding of how residents travel around the town, identifying where there may be connectivity issues and opportunities to improve.
“We invite all residents, whether you drive to and from work, walk our footpaths, or use public transport, to let us know how you move around Hamilton,” he said.
“Your feedback and local insight will help form the basis of this work by highlighting where potential transport gaps are, what we need to plan for into the future, and how we could deliver better connections into and across the town.
“We want you to think about what would make your journey better.
“Would you ride into the CBD more if there were less trucks and more bike paths?
“Would you walk to work if there were better footpath connections, or maybe you avoid driving certain roads because they’re too dangerous or congested at peak times – we want to hear about it.”
On the Southern Grampians Shire Council website, residents can open a map of Hamilton and pinpoint areas where there are problems or opportunities and drop a pin with a comment or feedback (as seen in the photo below).
Other users can then see those and comment in support or start a discussion on the topic.
Providing information on local current transport habits through Hamilton Moves will enable Council to build a comprehensive picture of the regions transport needs, continue advocacy work for government support, and focus on improving connectivity for residents of any age.
“This study will help Council continue to work towards the vision of being a well-connected dynamic regional centre, and support a healthy and inclusive community,” Cr Colliton said.
Locals can provide feedback to Council online through sthgrampians.vic.gov.au/haveyoursay.
Maps are also available at the Greater Hamilton Library and customer service desk for those who would rather give their comments in person.
