Progress on rail saga

IT has been a long battle to upgrade the Maroona-Portland rail line but advocates finally had something to cheer about this week – even if the state government was scathing.

The federal government on Tuesday announced it had committed $2.2 million to fund a business case – expected to take about 18 weeks to complete – to see whether or not it was worth upgrading the line.
