Never too much of a good string

ON Thursday night, the Australian String Quartet played at The Hamilton and Alexandra College, with guest artist Laurence Matheson performing a greatly varied program of works to an audience of around 90 people. There were string quartets by Beethoven, a suite for violin/viola and piano by Bruck, and an exquisite Mendelssohn piano trio. Members of the quartet introduced the works, their context and the compositional features of the repertoire in a conversational style, applauded by the enthusiastic Hamilton audience, which ranged from the very young to very experienced music lovers.
