Former local dies in SA truck crash

A FORMER local boxer has died in a horrific truck crash at Penneshaw, Kangaroo Island, on Tuesday morning, after his truck ran off the road.

Mitchell Clark, 27, was the sole occupant of the vehicle who sadly died at the scene after his truck left the road and crashed over an embankment before colliding into rocks.

Emergency services attended the scene of the accident at Clark and Christmas Street near the Penneshaw boat ramp at about 8am Tuesday.

The cause of the accident is yet to be determined, with investigations continuing into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

South Australia Police Traffic Services Branch officer in charge and superintendent, Bob Gray said it was a heartbreaking accident that no family should have to go through.

“The crash that led to Mr Clark’s death was a tragic incident and South Australia Police extend condolences to Mr Clark’s family and friends,” he said.

Mr Clark had previously lived locally and boxed at Mocka’s Boxing Club in Coleraine, before moving to Kangaroo Island around 18 months ago.

There have now been 22 lives lost on South Australian roads this year, compared to 33 at the same time last year.
