The tractor trek is back

IT might be autumn instead of spring, but a popular Heywood event is back on this weekend.

The Heywood Tractor Trek takes place Saturday and Sunday.

The trek is usually held in the spring, but spokeswoman Simone Moriarty said it was changed to autumn to avoid harvest season in the area.

Over the years the Trek has gone to many interesting places nearby, using back roads to make the trip even more interesting, and this time the destination is Hotspur.

Ms Moriarty said the tractors would leave Heywood Ag at 10am Saturday (registration is from 9am) via road and bush tracks with the first stop being Lyons for lunch.

“After that, the trek will continue to Hotspur Hall where we will stay overnight,” she said.

“An evening meal will be available to all, alongside the return of the spinning wheel where there will be prizes for everyone to win.

“Sunday morning will entail a warm breakfast shortly followed by the departure of the trekkers who will head back to Heywood via many bush tracks.”

The trekkers are due to arrive at the Pioneer Wagon Shed and Museum (which, as reported in last week’s Heywood Herald, is running its own event for the Australian Heritage Festival) about noon on Sunday to enjoy a lunch provided by the Heywood Lions Club.

All proceeds from the Trek will go, as usual, to Cancer in Kids (CiKA) at the Royal Children’s Hospital.

All makes and models of tractors can take part, with a minimum speed of 12km/hr.

They must be registered or have a VicRoads permit.

Registration is $30/driver which includes the lunches, or $60 which includes the Saturday night dinner.

While these are for the tractor driver only the meals are also open to the public.
