PROUD Hamilton grandparents, Brian and Gillian Jenkins, were thrilled to learn recently their ten-year-old grandson, who lives in London, was selected to read a prayer in front of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at an Anzac Day memorial service at Westminster Abbey last week.
Evan Jenkins learnt he’d been chosen to deliver the reading after going through a selection process as a ‘Young Citizen of Australia’ on Anzac Day.
His parents, Aaron and Rachelle Jenkins, have been living in London since 2020 with their two sons Evan, 10, and Elliot,7, where Aaron has been working as a diplomat to the Australian High Commission.
Aaron is a former Kent Road Primary School and Baimbridge College student.
Evan’s grandmother, Mrs Jenkins said Evan attends school in London and had been diligently rehearsing his reading in the Abbey before the service.
“He was very nervous in the lead up to the reading, but was equally excited,” she said.
“He was very pleased with himself but hadn’t even realised that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were there when he read the prayer.
“When he was told the future King of England was present, that’s when it sank in just how special the occasion was.”
