MACARTHUR’S Suffoir Winery, Brewery, and Distillery has welcomed South African born artist, Juanita Pohl, as their first artist in residence.
Ms Pohl has completed her first mural for Suffoir Winery, Brewery, and Distillery and will continue to explore the mediums of spray paint and wire sculpting when creating two additional pieces as part of Suffoir’s Art@Suffoir exhibition which will be held in October.
Ms Pohl said she had always been fascinated by portrait-painting but only found her passion for sculpting in 2019 after immigrating to Australia.
“It’s like I’m painting three dimensionally with my hands as the brushes,” she said.
The Art@Suffoir exhibition will showcase the talent of local artists and musicians, celebrated alongside good food and great company.
Suffoir Winery, Brewery, and Distillery owners, Pieter and Michelle Badenhorst, said they were excited about the exhibition which would be a collaboration between hospitality and the arts.
“We love art and seeing the joy and engagement that it brings,” Michelle said.
The initiative came about organically after Mr and Ms Badenhorst signed up to host the inaugural Queenscliff Art Prize.
The team has now received a grant from the Australian Government’s ‘Regional Arts Fund’, which supports the arts in regional and remote Australia, and will help them to enter the arts scene with bravado.
Suffoir Winery, Brewery, and Distillery will also host their own People’s Choice Award, where visitors can select their favourite of the 30 art panels showcased on the property, with the winner announced at the Art@Suffoir exhibition.
