Spec photographer goes global

NOT for the first time our very own Spectator photographer, Tash Franko, has had her photographs splashed around the world.

In the final weeks of the Federal Election campaign, Tash was engaged to do a job for popular independent candidate Alex Dyson who ran his campaign on issues he felt had been ignored by the Federal Government for too long.

Aside from climate change, affordable housing, labour shortages, and women’s safety, a standout issue that featured as part of Mr Dyson’s campaign was roads.

Mr Dyson sought to capitalise on voter discontent by posing in a series of humorous photographs to promote the issue and bring it to the attention of the rest of the world.

And so it did, with Tash’s photographs of Mr Dyson in various costume, or barely any at all, going viral and not only ending up being run with The Age but also on the home page of the Daily Mail.

The candidate’s photo shoot also caught the attention of 7News’ Sunrise television breakfast show weather presenter, Sam “Sam Mac” McMillan last week.

In 2018, a photo Tash took of a prized kelpie made it to the popular publication as well as being run in an online newspaper in the United States.

Tash first met Mr Dyson through her Facebook page, ‘Fix Our Rural Roads,’ where she regularly draws attention to particularly dangerous sections and potholes on local roads, with varying degrees of success in getting them fixed. She has over 6500 followers, a number that is growing daily.

Tash loves photography but particularly enjoyed the opportunity to get creative in the photo shoot with Mr Dyson.

“We certainly had a lot of fun,” she said.

“Alex is a good sport, and it was great to work together to highlight the shocking state of our local roads – and they’re getting worse.”
