THE Rotary Club of Hamilton held its changeover dinner on Wednesday night, with James Dishon inducted as the club’s new president.
Mr Dishon steps into the role in place of outgoing president, Brian Jenkins.
Mr Jenkins continued the facilitation of a review of the club during his term in office to re-brand Rotary in Hamilton and to adopt a three-year strategic plan.
“We started the year as the Rotary Club of Hamilton North and by September we had re-branded to the Rotary Club of Hamilton, trading as Rotary Hamilton,” Mr Jenkins said.
One of the main goals of the plan was to successfully promote the club in the community, this was achieved through the club’s new Environment Committee’s work in tree planting, recycling promotion and participation in Clean-up Australia Day.
“The completion of the Brumley Park playground at Lake Hamilton was a highlight as this was our Centenary of Rotary project,” Mr Jenkins said.
Rotary Hamilton has also been proud to partner with Western District Health Service’s MRI fundraising campaign as their 2021/2022 cause.
Mr Jenkins said he was pleased to hand over the reins to Mr Dishon, who was honoured to be named as the club’s new president, and keen to implement the club’s strategic plan over the next 12 months.
“I have been in Rotary for over 15 years and have been involved with many of the committees, including director of the vocational committee over the last few years,” he said.
“Rotary’s community work is an important part of what we enjoy doing, whether it’s planting a tree, cooking a snag on the BBQ or selling paintings at the art show.”
Mr Dishon also said he was looking forward to a COVID-free year, so that the club could recommence their important fundraising activities for local, Australian, and International projects, such as the Lamb Bar at Sheepvention and the Annual Art Show.
“There is a lot of fun and good fellowship to be had by all when undertaking these projects,” he said.
Mr Jenkins will continue his involvement with the club, as the Director of the upcoming Annual Art Show in October.
