CASTERTON Playgroup’s little ones are enjoying some new additions to their playdates, thanks to Glenelg Shire Council’s Community Grants program.
The $1000 grant, received in the council’s latest funding round, was used to purchase a pack of educational Connetix Magnetic Tiles - where the only limit to play, is a child’s imagination – and a set of dinosaurs.
The grant will also allow the purchase of a garden shed, for storing the group’s outdoor toys.
Playgroup president, Geraldine Jones, expressed her thanks to the council for the donation, which had gone a long way for the group.
“Without their support, we wouldn’t be where we are today,” she said.
Kirra Consett - who regularly attends the Playgroup with her son, Theodore - said the new toys were a welcome addition.
“We’ve got a new committee so we’re just trying to revamp a few things and update toys,” she said.
“(Bringing in new toys) gives (the children) different textures, different skills to use.”
New families are always welcome to attend Casterton Playgroup, held at the Masonic Lodge in Henty Street, 9am to 12pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The Playgroup is open to newborns and children under five as well as their parents and carers. It provides social interaction and supportive networks for attending families including those new to the Casterton area, while offering “stimulating” experiences for children in an informal setting.
