Hamilton North PS donates to MRI for U&I

HAMILTON North Primary School Year 6 students from 2021 have given back to the local community through donating an outstanding $1200 to the Western District Health Service MRI for U&I Appeal.

Hamilton North Primary School Year 5/6 classroom teacher, Laura Matthews said the money was the result of the students beginning their first Financial Literacy Program, where they had to develop a concept and make a product to sell to the other students within the school.

As part of their studies, the Year 6 students learnt about advertising, profit and loss spreadsheets, calculating change, and pitching their product/idea to the school to receive a $20 start-up loan.

Ms Matthews said the students were all “extremely engaged” in the program and enjoyed selling their items at in school markets held over the course of four weeks, making enough money to repay their loans.

All profits made from the Financial Literacy Program were to be distributed to local community initiatives with an opportunity for students to also invest in upgrades for the school yard.

Ms Matthews said the Year 6 students chose to donate to the WDHS MRI for U&I fundraiser, raising $1200 through their "outstanding achievements”.
