Library fun these school holidays

TO help kids beat boredom these school holidays, The Greater Hamilton Library Winter School Holiday Program is returning this week with a range of activities providing fun for all ages.

The ever-popular movie-craft session will make a comeback, featuring ‘Minions – The Rise of Gru’, with other fun activities such as Bee-Bot coding, Mr Snot-Bottom comedy, and Geeks and Games, offering something to keep everyone entertained.

Southern Grampians Shire Council senior library officer, Jenny Poynton, said the library was pleased to once again offer local kids a unique experience during their school holidays.

“We have another fantastic school holiday program lined up with sessions to suit all ages with some really fun and different activities,” she said.

“Bookings are essential so get in touch with our friendly library team to secure your place.”

The winter program will begin Wednesday, June 29, with a movie and craft event featuring ‘Minions - The Rise of Gru’, where kids will make their own figurine, followed by a showing of the movie at the Hamilton Cinema.

The fun will continue on July 1, with kids introduced to simple coding techniques through a series of buzzworthy challenges using bumble-bee robots (Bee-Bots).

Comedian ‘Mr Snot-Bottom’ will have audience members rolling around with laughter over his tasteless tunes and gross-out gags on July 5.

Older kids will not miss out either, with a ‘Geeks and Games’ event on July 8, providing the opportunity to play Armello, a digital role-playing strategy board game, and participate in a Minecraft ‘Create Your Own Mini Game’ session, with a fun presentation from ‘League of Geeks’ chair, Trent Kusters.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own devices to join the ‘Geeks and Games’ session with ‘Oculus Quest’ virtual reality sessions also available throughout the day.

Ms Poynton said the events were very popular this year and all were sold out except for ‘Geeks and Games’, with interested locals able to book for the game design, Minecraft, and virtual reality event by contacting The Greater Hamilton Library.
