Family Brekky returns to celebrate Feast Day
Suzie McManus - Sacred Heart School
LAST week we celebrated our school’s feast day - the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
As a Catholic School, we embrace the love and values taught by Jesus in the Gospels and celebrate through events such as the Family Breaky or attending Mass.
We show compassion for others through our Mini Vinnies Projects like the Winter Appeal … we wore our PJs to remind us that others live in need and we can do something - however small - to show our love.
One of our school traditions is to hold a family breakfast; we have not been able to do this the last couple of years due to Covid-19.
We catered for just over 60 people.
It was so lovely to catch up and have you all back on the school grounds.
Mini Vinnies
We are absolutely overwhelmed with the support & donations that we have received for this year's appeal.
Foodworks did an amazing job collecting food items in their store and a big thank you must go to the very clever people who have been busy knitting and sewing items to donate to our stall; you are all amazing!
The Mini Vinnies team met with Frank from the Casterton St Vincent de Paul Society and handed over our donations, totalling $216.05 and helped to put together hampers for those in the Casterton community who need it most.
Water winner
CONGRATULATIONS to Holly James on winning the Wannon Water - Discovering Groundwater competition for World Water Day 2022.
You should be very proud of your research and slide presentation - well done, Holly!
Congratulations Elsie on being awarded first prize in the Under 12 category at the Rotary Kelpie art Show.
Sheryl-Lee and Darren, from Rotary, visited the school to present Elsie with her prize and framed artwork ‘Worm World’.
We must also mention April Henty-Anderson who received a special commendation for her ‘Endangered Species - Red Tail Black Cockatoo’ artwork.
Great work girls!
Exciting visit
LAST week we had two special guests: Andy Wilksch - Australian Off Road Racing Championship leader - and Casterton Primary School staff and students.
Andy was in Casterton to compete in the Vic Off Road Championships, hosted by the Casterton Sporting Motorcycle Enduro Club.
He has been busy riding in Europe and South America over the past few years and is currently leading his class in the Australian Off Road Championships.
The kids were all given the chance to ask questions, have a look at all Andy’s gear and his Husky 500 four-stroke. Thanks for coming to visit Andy.
Term finishes on a busy note at college
Ann Hirst - Casterton Secondary College
OUR Year 10s had the opportunity to attend the Careers Expo held at Longerenong last Tuesday, 21 June.
It provided the students with information and direction for future pathways to further study or apprenticeships that are available to them.
Science
AS TERM two draws to a close, exciting happenings are still taking place in our science classes.
Pictured are Madeline and Riley making nylon thread and turning the rest of the reactants into a nylon ball.
Art
YEAR 8N have learned about architectural drawing and design using a two-point perspective. They explored a variety of techniques for creating surface textures before rendering their buildings.
