Liquid fertiliser spill

THREE appliances from the Hamilton Fire Brigade joined members from the Southern Grampians Shire Council and Hamilton Police, who responded to a call at 10.59am on Thursday morning requesting a wash away as the result of a vehicle accident.

“When we arrived on scene it escalated to a hazardous materials incident due to a spillage of liquid fertilizer,” CFA Hamilton Fire Brigade captain, Malcolm Anderson said.

“It was approximately 500 litres of fertiliser that spilled and entered the storm water system.

“We assisted police and Southern Grampians crew with the recovery of the remaining product and have done a decontamination of the storm water system.”

Captain Anderson said CFA finished at the scene at 3pm, following which the final clean up was handed over to the Shire.

“It was a good multi agency collaborative response,” he said.

“There were no injuries reported which was a good outcome.”
