LOCALS are being warned not to be lulled into a false sense of security about the risk of COVID-19 spreading in the community, despite the number of cases decreasing in recent weeks.

However, across Victoria, rising daily case numbers have been attributed to the subvariants of Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 circulating, with hospitals bracing for a peak in admissions in August.
