INFORMAL seating and bollards will be installed and new trees planted at Port Fairy’s Railway Place to further enhance the popular meeting space, while improving safety for users.
Work will begin along the laneway off Bank Street leading to Port Fairy Community House and the car parking area.
Moyne Shire Council mayor, Ian Smith, said the informal seating and bollards would use natural materials, while new plantings would complement existing trees.
He said the work would also improve safety for users of the reserve.
“We have seen a few people driving across the reserve as a short cut between Bank and Regent Street,” Cr Smith said.
“The bollards will improve the safety of all community members using Railway Place.
“Council officers have consulted with regular users of the space and have developed a series of bollards and tree plantings that will help manage traffic, while also provide informal seating that compliments the gathering space near the Visitor Information Centre.”
Access to Railway Place will still be available via Regent Street for the regular markets and events that are held.
The $35,000 project is funded from the State Government’s Outdoor Activation Fund and the work is expected to be completed by late August.
