Matilda The Musical hits the stage

ON Thursday night this week, students from The Hamilton and Alexandra College (THAAC) hit the Simons Auditorium stage in the Kantor Family Music and Performing Arts Centre with their production of Matilda The Musical - an adaptation of Roald Dahl’s famous 1988 children’s novel, Matilda.

Matilda The Musical is the story of a remarkable girl with a colourful imagination and sharp mind, who daringly takes a stand to create her own story.

THAAC’s production director, Bonita Silva, said there had been 13 weeks of hard work and incredible commitment from the 30 talented cast members involved in the production.

“Opening night was spectacular,” she said.

“It was everything the production team had hoped, and knew the dedicated cast deserved.

“To experience such a diverse range of age and experience on the stage, feeling their support for each other filled me with pride and reinforced why, we as staff, commit to these school experiences.

“I am so excited to see what these students bring to the stage for our next shows and the years ahead of performing arts, here at The Hamilton and Alexandra College.”

Musical director, Benjamin Hiscock, said everyone was loving having the opportunity to get the students back on stage.

“The score is full of whimsical Tim Minchin moments,” he said.

“Everyone will relate to the struggles of Matilda and the characters in the cast.”

Matilda The Musical opened on Thursday evening, with a performance on Friday, August 5 at 7pm, and two further sessions today at 2pm and 7pm.
