HAMILTON’S community is no stranger to remarkable benevolence and philanthropy.

We are fortunate to live in a locality that thrives on connection and when someone concentrates their efforts behind a cause they’re passionate about, everyone gets on board.

The Hamilton Lions Club have recognised Kathy Mibus and her family as outstanding examples of this exact phenomenon.

The Mibus family consists of Kathy, Trevor, and their children Rachael, Brooke, and Jacob.

Kathy is well known for motivating and directing an incredible campaign in support of the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal.

She and her family have worked assiduously since 2009, organising programs and events for the Appeal that have been cardinal to the successful fundraising for the Royal Children’s Hospital.

The Royal Children’s Hospital is integral to the vitality of our children, and the hospital’s expertise has helped so many in our community, Kathy and her family included.

On Father’s Day in 2008, Kathy and Trevor’s youngest child, Jacob, sustained serious injuries to his lower left leg after a lawn mower accident.

Jacob was flown to The Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne where it was decided that due to the degree of trauma, his leg would be amputated.

The hospital was instrumental with the initial treatment and worked with Jacob and his family in producing suitable prosthesis for his leg.

The Mibus family’s experience with The Royal Children’s Hospital has inspired extraordinary altruism from Kathy, her family, and those who have supported the Mibus’ through comradery and respective volunteering and donations.

Kathy’s benignity is illustrated by her regular donations to the Good Friday Appeal in excess of $4000 each year.

Her generosity seems endless as she supports many programs in Dunkeld and those which extend beyond her locality.

Kathy supports SecondBite (a national food rescue organisation), the Starlight Foundation, charities supporting First Nations Peoples vitality, and has sponsored a child through The Smith Family Foundation since COVID-19.

In June of this year, Kathy has raised in excess of $3000 in just two days for the Pink Ribbon Day Breast Cancer Appeal.

Kathy’s father has set up a trust which supports the Start Foundation that empowers amputees in life through sport, of which Jacob was a beneficiary for his prosthesis.

Those who know and speak with Kathy are compelled by her presence and can feel the passion for what she does in her voice.

Kathy’s effort, compassion, and drive are exemplary of an incredible role model and inspiring leader in our community.

Kathy and her family’s patronage over the last 15 years is embodied in all of their achievements and as such, Kathy and her family are honoured recipients of the Alan J Holding Community Service Award.
