AFTER forecasts early last week threatened to make a mess of Kyeema’s Spring Sale, thankfully the weather held off on Saturday – and the reward was a great crowd and record takings.
The Sale is an annual highlight of the Portland spring calendar but has not been held since 2019 thanks to coronavirus restrictions.
But it was back on Saturday – with a bang.
Kyeema chief executive Julie Amor said the Sale was “a real success and a joy to be part of”.
“Apart from one shower of rain it was clear and sunny, so people could sit out and enjoy the various food and music and wander the market stalls,” she said.
“The music was exceptional and has become a major part of people’s enjoyment.”
And plenty for the kids, as always – showbags, face-painting and a big favourite, the petting zoo.
Takings on the day (and from pre-sale donations) were $36,411.60.
“This result is around ($4000) over our 2019 takings although past years also included an online auction that we now do as a separate activity,” Ms Amor said.
“Seawinds Nursery did really well with huge sales including vegetable seedlings the team has been propagating for months.
“There was a real buzz on the day that was good to see.
“I think people were happy to get out for some spring fun and a sociable time whilst knowing they were doing some good for Kyeema.”
Ms Amor thanked a host of people for their efforts.
“As soon as the decision had been made to run Spring Sale this year, coordinator Barb South swung into action and organised a seamless event,” she said.
“She hadn’t forgotten a thing in the two-year hiatus and we can’t thank her enough.
“Thank you to our staff, board, our families and friends who volunteered for the day, the community volunteers running the coffee van and barbecue and all others who assisted in large and small ways.
“I hope these and all who attended enjoyed the day because your work is certainly appreciated.”
