Moyne citizen awards open

IF there is someone who works tirelessly behind the scenes to make the community tick – Moyne Shire Council wants to hear from you.

Nominations for Council’s annual Australia Day Citizenship Awards are now open and community members can nominate anyone they think should be honoured for the outstanding and often unsung contribution they make to the Moyne Shire community.

Nominations are also being taken for the community event of the year – to recognise the incredible festivals, fundraisers and get togethers held each year which help make the Moyne community a vibrant place to be or raise awareness for important causes.

Moyne Shire mayor, Cr Ian Smith said that there are many people in our community who are worthy of receiving a nomination and encouraged people to put in a nomination.

“We all know someone within the community who goes above and beyond to make the community a better place – often they people work quietly behind the scenes making sure events, services, community programs and clubs run smoothly.

“Without them the community would be a much poorer place, so this is your chance to nominate so they can receive the recognition they deserve.

“All you need to do is head to Council’s website and fill in a short form about the person or event you’re nominating, and why.”

Nominations are being sought in the following categories:

• Citizen of the Year: to recognise individuals aged over 30 for their outstanding service and contribution to their local community.

• Young Citizen of the Year: to recognize individuals aged under 30, for their service and contribution to their local community.

• Community Event of the Year: to acknowledge a group who has staged an outstanding local community event within the past year.

Any Moyne Shire Resident is eligible to be nominated and will be recognised at Council’s Australia Day Event on January 26.

Nominations will close on November 20, and can be made by visiting Councils website at moyne.vic.gov.au/AusDay
