THAAC history revealed

THE extensive history of The Hamilton and Alexandra College (THAAC) will be explored at Hamilton History Centre on Tuesday by guest speaker, Neil MacLean.

As this year marks 150 years of THAAC providing education in Hamilton, former deputy principal, Mr MacLean will delve into the school’s rich history, covering its troubles, triumphs and transformations throughout its lifespan.

After working at the College for 43 years, Mr MacLean retired in 2020 and spent a significant period of time undertaking extensive research into the history of THAAC, contributing his findings to the school’s history book titled, ‘Defying the Odds’, which was released earlier this year.

Mr MacLean said his talk at Hamilton History Centre will appeal to everyone, including those who did not attend the school, as it documents the remarkable journey that led to THAAC becoming the highly respected educational institution it is today.

“I will be talking about the history of the college and how it came to be,” he said.

“It was the school’s 150th this year and I was the person who researched and wrote up the sesquicentenary, so I’ll be speaking on that.

“I’ll simple be selecting some highlights from the history and sharing some of the interesting parts that people may not know.

“Basically I will be sharing some of the things that grabbed my attention in the history.”

Mr MacLean will present his talk at the Hamilton History Centre this Tuesday at 7.30pm.
