Ukraine concert

FOLLOWING the devastating war in Ukraine, a group of locals have banded together to organise a fundraising concert titled, ‘Stand with Ukraine’, to raise money for those directly affected.

Held on Saturday, November 19 at 7.30pm at the Hamilton Performing Arts Centre (HPAC), the concert will feature performances by local artists John Healy and Debi Doheny, Peter Cook, TRAX Big Band, and The Evergreens.

Committee member, Chris Cole said the evening would have something for everyone, including great music and plenty of dancing.

“There will be blues, rock and roll, jazz, some old-time swing … so a complete array,” he said.

“People can come and with the bands they can dance.

“There will be something for the oldies and for the youngies.”

Upon arrival attendees will be greeted at the door by people wearing Ukrainian national clothing and the Ukraine flag will be on display for all to see.

Mr Cole said the organising committee consisted of six locals who wanted to help provide support to Ukrainians impacted by the war, with all funds raised going towards a humanitarian support organisation to assist with their Ukraine Appeal.

“The devastation of the war in Ukraine has led to the condemnation of Russia and this concert is our way of showing our support for Ukrainians and raising money for much needed aid for their country,” he said.

“All proceeds will be donated to the Ukraine arm of CARE Australia, who will then use the money for humanitarian projects.

“If people aren’t pleased about what’s going on over there could they show their support for the people of Ukraine.”

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own food and drinks to the cabaret style performance; more information or tickets available from HPAC.
